One kick at a time: 4 new year’s resolutions for kids

One kick at a time: 4 life changing new year’s resolutions for kids

Can kids (even young ones) really make and keep New Year’s resolutions? Absolutely! New Year’s resolutions – even for adults – should be about doing things to help you become the best version of yourself. Versus Sport Taekwondo, we’re kind of partial to all things taekwondo, so we thought it fitting to give you some life-changing resolutions for kids where you learn one kick at a time (literally and figuratively):

1. Don’t hold back

Remember the old Proverb that kids should be seen and not heard? While there are certainly many times and places for kids to be quiet, but it’s OK to teach kids that it can sometimes be appropriate to be confident and to stand up for themselves in life (and how to go about it respectfully).

What does it mean to be confident in life? To speak up when necessary – like when someone is being mean to your child or someone around them. It means not being afraid to make a difference: Not being too timid to express an opinion when needed. Standing up for themselves means taking chances, even when there’s fear.

2. Jump in with confidence

It’s never too early to instill confidence in your kids. One way to do so is to teach them to jump right in! Similar to taekwondo, things can appear overwhelming – but if they just jump right in, they’ll soon see how quickly they become acclimated to their new surroundings and how it really wasn’t so bad after all.

This year, help your kids keep their New Year’s resolution to jump right in – whether it’s in regard to homework or that big school project, or another problem they’re hesitant about tackling. Remind them they can achieve anything they desire, and give them the confidence to know they can.

3. Enjoy Successes

Sometimes your success is along, fantastic journey – and sometimes that success comes crashing down around you, presenting more challenges. But, no matter what, you have to get back up and experience the next journey to see what happens.

Kids can learn persistence and determination by vowing to enjoy the process this year, in all of life’s endeavors. Take taekwondo lessons at Versus Sport Taekwondo, for example: Getting frustrated by not being able to learn that new skill on the first try? No problem, just enjoy the process and they’ll get there. And you’ll be there to celebrate with your kids when their persistence and determination pay off and they advance to the next level!

4. Life is one big opportunity

You want your kids to be happy, and to look on the bright side of things. You want them to be a glass-half-full kind of person who sees and appreciates the good in life – but how do you teach that to young kids? By showing them that life is just one big opportunity, and we should all be having fun going after our goals.

Life can be more fun when you view it like a healthy challenge. Take competition, for example. Sure, training by yourself is enjoyable and necessary at times, but when you gather up a group you can have more fun and share laughs – and even help each other. We should learn from each other and support each other to obtain extraordinary results while celebrating each other’s successes!
